Questions
"You have amazing stuff, where do you get all of your items that you sell?"
Great question! Our curators are constantly scouring estate sales, garage sales, online marketplaces and auction sites as well as private individuals who sell to us.
"Do you buy clothes or other vintage items?"
Absolutely! No need to make an appointment either, just bring your items in for our curators to evaluate and make you an offer. The best times to come in are Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12pm to 6pm.
"What if I have too much to bring in to show you--will you come to me?"
No problem--our curators are happy to travel to your location on Mondays or Tuesdays. Just call or email to set up an appointment.
"Are all of your items vintage?"
Great question. Our store carries true vintage items that are 15+ years old or more, but we also carry some modern items too if they are pop-culture related, retro, or vintage-inspired. We also carry new items like keychains, earrings, and apothecary goods like room sprays, etc.
"Can I buy something online and have you ship it to me?"
Because of the unique nature of our business and given that most of our items are single items that we do not carry multiples of, this makes it difficult to offer online sales. Because of this, we do not sell online or ship. Be sure to check back as this is something we are looking to offer in the future!
"Do you have parking at your store?"
Being located in downtown Grand Rapids, we do not have a parking lot. However, there are a few on-street parking spots directly in front of our store, as well as the surrounding streets all within walking distance. If you would prefer to park in a parking ramp, the nearest one is just northwest of our location at the corner of Weston and Commerce with the entrance on Weston.
Our Team.
Decaydence Vintage was founded by Tomas Short and Jim Long.
Tom is our head curator and can be found most days behind the counter at our store, steaming, pricing, and putting out new items on an almost daily basis. Tom is constantly scouring the internet for vintage items as well as spending most of his out-of-store time going to estate sales, garage sales, and any other place he can find the best vintage to bring back!
Jim comes and goes as he pleases but is mostly in charge of handling all of the boring business stuff--accounting, paying bills, taxes, permits, as well as contracts and negotiations.
Shelley is the owner of Peridot & Birch, a speciality "store" within our store that concentrates on books, live plants, jewelry, hand-made knit/crochet items, and the apothecary section. Shelley is also instrumental in decorating the store and our ever-changing window displays.
